Laying New Turf? Here's How Much Underlay You'll Need

For new turf installations, apply your underlay at a minimum depth of 100mm (10cm) and up to 200mm for premium results. To calculate how much you need: measure your area in square metres, then multiply by 0.10 for 100mm depth. For example, a 50m² lawn needs approximately 5 cubic metres of turf underlay. Which Soil or Mix Do You Need?

• Garden Fine Mix: A blended mix of sand, soil, ash, bark fines and compost. Great all-purpose soil for new garden beds, trees, shrubs and general planting.
• Lawn Mix: Designed for lawn establishment and top-dressing. Enriched with organics to encourage healthy grass growth and spreading.
• Turf Underlay / Natural Turf Underlay: A sand-and-soil blend designed specifically as a base for new turf installations. Free-draining with good moisture retention. Recommended depth: 100–200mm.
• Council Mix: A cost-effective blend suited to large-scale fill, civil landscaping and council-grade projects.
• Mix Premium Potting: For pots, planters and container gardens. Lightweight, free-draining and nutrient-rich.
